Favourite Dancer

Introduction
This assignment is about my favourite famous dancer. I had to make this assignment for art, because the other student went to the theatre. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there so the teacher gave me the opportunity to still talk about dance. I don’t really have a famous dancer. This may be because there are a lot of styles that attract me. I also prefer looking at the dance moves instead of looking at the dancer himself. This is because he didn’t made his own choreography.

I have chosen John Travolta as my subject. He is a very talented man and well-known. The reason why I have chosen him is that he is a dancer who personates the feelings. Some dancer just dance, but when you look at him it is almost like he is telling a story. He expresses the emotions precisely, he isn’t just a dancer, he is the dancer in the movie.

John Joseph Travolta was born on February 18, 1954. He is American dancer, actor and singer. Travolta was raised in a family with 6 children in Englewood, New Jersey. His father was a professional American football player. His mother was an actress and singer. You can see, he was raised in a busy family, which was very talented. The fame of his parents could be an huge advantage but also a disadvantage, because he would always be seen as the child of a actress or football player.

Johns career started after he had attended Dwight Morrow High School. He moved to New York City, the city known for the many opportunities, here he landed a role in the musical Grease. After this he moved to Los Angeles to further his career in show business. I mainly now him from his musical movies Grease, Saturday night fever, hairspray and staying alive.

John had less luck with his personal life. He had a relationship with actress Diana Hyland. They met each other at the filming of The boy in the plastic Bubble. Unfortunately Diana died of breast cancer in 1977. He had had a lot of difficulty with the death of Diana. Luckily for him, he found a new girlfriend, actress Kelly Preston. The married in 1991 and the year after they got a child, Jett. Their daughter was born in 2000, Ella Bleu and the youngest son was born in 2010 named Benjamin. There were talks in America that they would counsel the marriage. Travolta has stated that therapy has saved the marriage.

This year, Travolta admitted he had feelings for men instead of women. This is also why Travolta and Kelly had fights all of the time, however Kelly did keep John’s secret.

Conclusion
In my opinion Travolta should be an example for everyone. He made his dreams come true, so why shouldn’t we? I think he made he way to the top, by ignoring the judgement of people, and always believing in himself. Even though his parents were famous, he made his own way to the top.

Who am I?

Introduction
This assignment is about self portraits. Most people draw self – portraits to answer the question, Who am I? This question is also the main point about this assignment. A lot of people ask themselves who they really are, because in this world, it can be hard to stay yourself. Everybody wants to change the real you, the thing they don’t understand is that you can’t shape someone’s personality. I hope that after this assignment I will know more about the reasons of the self portraits, but also being able to answer the question myself.

The main question in this assignment is mainly about if making self portraits help people to understand themselves better. I think that art and writing are the ways to get to know yourself better. The way you paint or draw, and the colours that you use, may explain your personality. Everybody has his own way of creating a masterpiece and draws on his or her unique way.
I think the reason for making these self-portraits is that they want to know who they really are. The way you draw your self is the way you get to know yourself. If you draw big eyes, this explains about you that you are a curious person or an observer. By looking in detail at your self-portrait after your done you can learn a lot about yourself.
Of course artist have to refresh their self-portraits from time to time. This isn’t only because the outside changes, but this can also be about the changing of the inside. When you grow older your interests shall change, just like your way of clothing will. They might use other colours, which they feel more attracted to. When you are a child, you are mostly very energetic, this differs a lot when you are mature. The colours will became more calmer and wiser.
Vincent van Gogh is famous because of his self – portraits. Van Gogh has some obvious characteristics which occur is almost every painting of him. These characteristics is the way he uses thick brushstrokes and the way he uses complementary colours. Using complementary colours means that the background is the opposite colour of the colour of your T-shirt. The feelings he had were mostly explained in the background. Van Gogh was a Dutch artist. When looking at his portraits I always get the idea that he was really insecure. It was almost like he was scared of what the viewers thought. Other famous self-portrait artists are Gauguin and Judith Leyster. Judith Leyster is in my opinion a confident and creative woman. She isn’t scared of the opinion of other, and draws in her unique way. In all the painting you feel a sparkle of optimism. This may be the reason why she is so famous. Andy Warhol did is in a totally different direction. He used four images of himself, which were all the same pictures. In every image he pointed out a different side of him. Most people I know say that he is very superficial. But I don’t agree on this ! There is always a reason why you paint, draw or create yourself in another way. Maybe he only wanted to show people the other side of him, a side which he doesn’t show often. A self-portrait can impossibly be superficial, if it is the case, it isn’t a self – portrait.

Conclusion
The reason that artist draw themselves isn’t just about getting to know more about yourself. It is also about showing the other side of you. Some artist draw away their imperfection, just so they can be proud of their looks. But I think that being imperfect belongs to being a human being.

Digital Self - Portrait

This time we had an art assignment which was about making a digital self - portrait. For manipulating my photo, I used the website picnik. I chose to use picnik, because I have manipulated more pictures with this website. So I new the basic things, and do not have to spend a lot of time on searching for everything.

I have made a short poem about the photograph:
" If your life is without any sorrows
you can go anywhere the wind blows.
You have to enjoy life to the fullest
and don't care nor think about the rest"

The picture is meant to describe pure happiness. The girl running on the photo does not have any sorrows. The world looks like a fantasy world towards her. You can feel the energy she is giving and feel the pleasure of the life she is living.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.

Collage,

We had to make a collage for art. This collage had to define who I am. On the photo you can see the things that I like. On the top on the left you can read crazy and on the bottem on the right you can read; against normal. This is because I do not like people who are like everyone else and are always serieus. Myself, I am not often serieus. I hate being normal, and love being crazy. Why does everybody wants to be the same? You can also see thing like clothes and glasses. These pictures I put in my collage because I love to dress up in different styles. A lot of items in the collage are about the outside, this isn't because i do not have confidence. Cause I don't really care what people think of me. The only thing that matters is that I am able to have fun with Valerie. There are also a lot of cartoons on the collage, this is because I like drawing cartoons. Maybe my collage may look like the others of my class, I think we are all quite different. This is because we all have had different experiences and care about other things.
